Self Introduction

Hi, my name is Junbo. I also go by the nickname Jacob. I sometimes use both of these names interchangeably and I don’t have a preference for either one of them. I’m glad to be in the Film Theory course. A little about me is that I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Media and Information. I work in Redu Media which is a branch of the company that owns the phone app DouYin, which is better known as TikTok here in the United States. I create short clips and videos for the Chinese online audience. It is my goal one day to become a director and create my own films. Currently, I live in Chengdu province. Hopefully, after the pandemic settles down I can go back to the United States to continue my studies in person at NYU. Some feelings about the course, I am nervous about the amount of theory in this course and readings as English is not my native language and I have no film theory back ground. Most of my experience is creating films. I look forward to learning a lot this semester and stepping up to this new challenge.

My idea of cinema is that is a lens view the world, or a window to view the world through a different perspective. Cinema provide a means to comment and critique on present day and past issues. They also comment on what they believe society's movements are heading towards.
